Nature & Scope:

The Payroll & Benefits Assistant is an integral part of the payroll team, who are collectively responsible for the accurate, timely processing of the bi-weekly payroll and benefits administration, ensuring legislative compliance and maintaining personnel records at YMCA BC. Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, the assistant supports procedures related to the day-to-day payroll & benefits duties, provides exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders, and responds to inquiries and/or escalates as required.

 

This position will have a primary focus on supporting benefits administration, and provide payroll administration support as needed.

 

YMCA BC currently uses ADP Workforce Now and processes bi-weekly payrolls serving upwards of 2,000+ salaried, daily, and hourly paid staff.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides general payroll & benefits administrative support
  • Supports the timely enrolment and administration of employees for group benefits and/or the pension plan
  • Assists with remitting employee deductions including benefit premiums and pension contributions
  • Assists in month-end procedures and benefit general ledger account reconciliation.
  • Sets up new hires, processes updates, and maintains employee files
  • Supports completion of terminations, seasonal layoffs, ROEs, and other processes for employee terminations
  • Supports manager and team members in processing the payment of employees through ADP
  • Maintains secure and confidential personnel files and reports
  • Supports staff with online pay access and payroll related questions
  • Assists with resolving payroll & benefit tickets
  • Produces various management reports as required
  • Ensures adherence to all YMCA policies and procedures, collective agreements, and relevant federal and provincial legislation

 

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field is an asset
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation or working towards completion of certification is an asset
  • 1 year experience with payroll software database is an asset
  • Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of benefits, payroll and compensation systems is an asset
  • Demonstrates a high level of organizational, administrative and problem solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and Outlook
  • Demonstrated experience with accurate, high volume data entry using payroll database systems
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • Provide 3 professional references
