Hours of Work: 2-7 hours a week during active periods of the project

About the Organization

Abuse Never Becomes Us (A.N.B.U.) அன்பு, is a Registered Charity organization that works with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) within the Tamil community and aims to respond to sexual violence through culturally and linguistically appropriate programs and services. Our mandate is to provide holistic support to promote healing with adult survivors as well as raise awareness and build capacity through collaborations and partnerships with the community. 

 

Job Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Peer Support Facilitator to join our dedicated team in providing essential support to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and those impacted by it within the Tamil diaspora in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As a Peer Support Facilitator, you will play a pivotal role in drawing on your own lived experiences to create a safe and empathetic environment for group therapy sessions that aim to help adult survivors of CSA begin their healing journeys. Your expertise in trauma-informed care, cultural competence, and facilitation will be integral in guiding survivors towards finding their voice and fostering awareness around the impact of sexual violence.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Draw on your own lived experiences and healing strategies and skills to guide discussions during group therapy sessions, promote active participation, and encourage a sense of trust and connection among group members. 
  • Utilize understanding of the impact of trauma on individuals and families to create an environment of safety, respect, and empathy. 
  • Outside of group sessions, offer one-on-one peer support to participants and/or connect with additional resources, as needed.
  • Support with preparation of materials and resources for individual and group therapy sessions, if needed
  • Support implementation of evaluation activities during/after group sessions, if needed.
  • Collaborate with RSW/RP, community organizations, and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive support for survivors. 
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and supervision to enhance your facilitation skills and maintain a high standard of care.



Qualifications:

  • Previous experience facilitating support groups or therapy sessions, especially for survivors of trauma or abuse preferred
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and their application in group settings.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity, particularly within the Tamil diaspora community.
  • Empathetic, compassionate, and nonjudgmental approach to supporting survivors.
  • Familiarity with community resources and services related to sexual abuse and trauma.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and attention to detail.
