Position Overview

The Supports for Older Adults Worker (SOAW) will develop and maintain an active Supports for Older Adults Program, providing support services to older adults experiencing harm in a close relationship. These services will include practical supports, elder abuse information, advocacy, safety planning and community referrals. The SOAW will also support community education and engagement on the topic of elder abuse and contribute to the Lloydminster Elder Abuse Prevention (LEAP) Committee.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an active Supports for Older Adults Program and caseload.
  • Build supportive connections with each client, promoting their trust and growth.
  • Assist clients to identify their strengths, needs and goals, and to create an individualized support plan, maintaining a continuum of support.
  • Assess client needs; safety, legal, support, health, education and facilitate the range of program components such as emotional support, safety planning, basic needs, legal/court support.
  • Work collaboratively with referral partners to promote seamless services to clients and enhance partnerships with referral organizations.
  • Coordinate, develop, and facilitate the Living Well Program and other community programming as identified.
  • Maintain a strong communication linkage with other LIHS service areas, identify opportunities for collaboration and client support.

Experience and Competencies

A post- secondary education in a Human Services or related field of study. Experience working with vulnerable populations and/or older adults, and a solid understanding of interpersonal violence and the effects of trauma. Ability to build warm rapport with clients. Excellent group facilitation skills and ability to communicate effectively. A minimum of 3 year’s clean driving and insurance history.
