Full Time (35 hours/week)

Grid 13 ($29.96–$31.24/hour)

Opportunity

The Special Education Assistant is a member of the education team responsible for the academic and emotional needs of the youth in the school. The core role is to provide academic and behavioral support to students, set reasonable expectations and limits, and participate in planning the achievement of identified goals for individual youth. This requires a sound understanding of complex behaviors and barriers, impulsivity, attachment issues, and the effects of trauma and abuse, and learning disabilities.

The successful applicant will enjoy working with youth in an alternate school setting and bring experience in  creating and implementing Individual Education Plans, tutoring and recreation planning. They will be able to work flexible hours to support the success of students.

Qualifications:

Diploma in a related field and 2 years experience working within a high school setting; Special Education Assistant certification from a recognized school plus experience may also be considered.

  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Criminal Records Check
  • Sound judgement, tact, and effective interpersonal skills
  • Trauma informed practice
  • Experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Learning disabilities training including FASD, ADHD
  • Experience in an alternative school setting is an asset.
