JOB SUMMARY Position: Communications Specialist Purpose: The Communications Specialist is a key player in AMSSA's communication team, responsible for developing and executing communication strategies. The role involves creating compelling content, managing communication's engagement channels, building and maintaining AMSSA brand's image, and ensuring funder branding requirements. Reports to: Communications Manager with overall department supervision by the Senior Director of Operations and Communications Hours: 35 hours per week - work from AMSSA's office located in Burnaby B.C. with the possibility of working from home up to 2 days per week. Salary: $34.82 / hour Classification: Full-time ending March 31, 2025 (pending funding and potential to renew subject to funding). Four weeks of paid vacation in addition to paid holiday closure in December / January. Participation in AMSSA's benefits and RRSP plan in accordance with AMSSA policy. Works closely with the Communications Manager to execute program engagement and outreach projects.
Create engaging and impactful content for various platforms, including webpages, social media, newsletters and other communications material.
Maintain the organization's multilingual websites, ensuring content accuracy and user-friendliness.
Oversee and expand our social media presence, engaging with followers and monitoring trends.
Plan and execute outreach initiatives to raise awareness and drive engagement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure brand consistency and alignment across all communication efforts.
Works with the Communications Manager to monitor, analyze, and evaluate metrics and KPIs to develop data-driven recommendations for improvement and development of communication strategies aligned with the AMSSA's goals and objectives.
Supports the Communications Manager in reviewing, measuring and revising AMSSA engagement strategy, branding guidelines, social media guidelines and other applicable documents to ensure effective communications.
Stay updated on settlement sector trends and best practices in communication.
Simple graphic design, video conferencing or webinar/online video editing as required.
Compile, write, and present necessary information on engagement.
Foster effective communication with external vendors or contractors to facilitate seamless collaboration and coordination.
Supports with tracking communications-related budget expenses.
Supports junior members and volunteers of the communications team, fostering harmonious relationships and an environment of learning and growth.
Create and support the development of audiovisual storytelling materials and visual graphics as required.
Prepares communiques, media releases, pitches, op-eds and briefings as required.
Support with in-person/online event logistics and planning, and technical support as required.
Take meeting minutes and notes where necessary.
Work with the AMSSA Team on additional and emerging projects as required.
3-5 years' experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations. Experience in the not-for-profit, human services, academic or public sector is an asset.
Adaptive and responsive in a dynamic work environment and with shifting priorities and short deadlines.
Proven experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
Excellent time and resource management techniques.
Ability to build engagement and impact with social media content.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, fluency in French is an asset.
Experience creating multimedia and shareable graphics.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work independently, while being a collaborative and communicative team member.
Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
Proficient with social media platforms: LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube as well as social media management solutions such as Sprout Social.
Proficient with a variety of software and applications: Office 365 including: Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Mailchimp; database and contact management tools; Google Documents and Spreadsheets.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
Experience with technological online meeting platforms: Zoom, MS Teams
Experience maintaining websites through WordPress.
Knowledge of cloud-based electronic filing through Dropbox, Google Drive and One Drive.
Post-secondary undergraduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline is an asset.
