Job Title : Thrift Store Assistant Manager 

Based at : 7011 Girard Road, Edmonton 

Reports to : Store Manager 

Hours of work : 20-40hrs per week, Mon-Fri (schedule varies) 

Start date : Immediate 

Status : Full time, permanent/Part time, permanent

Job Summary: 

The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for the operations of the Second Chance Thrift store, where items are donated, sorted, priced, and sold. The Thrift Store Manager will collaborate with other staff, as well as work very closely with volunteers under the guidance of the Store Manager, to ensure the store is profitable and an enjoyable experience.  

Major Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Price and prepare items appropriately through experience or internet research. 
  • Direct and train volunteers on appropriate thrift store tasks. 
  • Research ideas to develop store. 
  • Schedule thrift store sales and physical promotions. 
  • Create store designs and displays. 
  • Develop social media presence.  
  • Manage cash register and volunteer cash teams. 
  • Scheduling volunteers. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe store. 
  • Responding to customer complaints. 
  • Work with warehouse sorting staff to process items.  
  • Working with Hope Mission volunteer coordinator to interview and asses and train volunteers. 
  • Create an environment of fun, friendship, and positivity for volunteers. 
  • Opening and locking building and thrift shop.  
  • Complete whatever tasks necessary to operate the thrift store. 

Minimum Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Ability to work as a team player and manage mature volunteers. 
  • Must be able to operate and manage cash system responsibly. 
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with staff and volunteers. 
  • Ability to action the goals and culture of the mission within the Thrift Store. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills vital.  
  • Experience scheduling and planning an asset. 
  • Experience using electronic point-of-sale an asset. 
  • Organization and design skills an asset.  
  • Retail experience an asset. 
  • Familiarity with advertising tactics an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Being a Christian Organization, we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith. 
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis. 
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search 
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset 
  • Adherence to Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
