John Howard Society has been supporting the vulnerable in the Okanagan community for more than 60 years with programs in community inclusion, restorative justice, shelter, and specialized housing.  It is known for its innovative approach to addressing homelessness and other social issues with dedication to building a safe, healthy, and inclusive community for all.

We at LoveHR are pleased to be assisting John Howard with hiring for a temporary Health Care Manager to lead and coordinate the agency’s Health Care program and the team for the period of maternity leave. The Health Care Manager is part of John Howard’s leadership team and plays a critical role in executing the strategic vision and goals of the program, and models and fosters the agency’s direction, culture, and values.

As an accountable program leader, the Manager will be responsible for:

  • Developing and delivering health supports and health related services;
  • Developing relationships with external health care services to facilitate linking clients to care;
  • Implementing effective caseload management protocols;
  • Recognizing and responding to potential health emergencies, crisis follow up and debriefing of incident reports;
  • Staff recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, coaching, and development;
  • Health & safety of employees and program participants, as well as contractors and volunteers on the work site;
  • Compliance with agency policies, BCCNM’s Practice Standards, other regulatory bodies, and funder requirements;
  • Cost optimization and management within the program budget;
  • Maintenance of accurate and organized program records and progress reports;
  • Participation in leadership meetings, liaison with government agencies and other service providers as required;
  • Other duties as needed to ensure a successful delivery of the Health Care program.

The right candidate will have a current LPN registration in good standing with BCCNM, proven and successful track of leading teams together with experience working with populations that JHSOK serves. They will demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, and possess excellent communication, organization and relationship building skills, as well as experience in supporting marginalized populations including expertise in mental health, substance use, harm reduction, person-centered care, and trauma informed approaches. Additional requirements include a valid first aid/CPR training, BC class 5 driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract and own vehicle, satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector search, and proof of Covid-19 vaccination.

Regular hours of work are Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm with on-call and after-hours work to be expected. This is a temporary position starting in April/May 2024 until September 2025.
