The Children’s Book Bank provides free books and literacy support to children living in high-needs neighbourhoods across Toronto. Since 2008, the Book Bank has operated a beautiful storefront space in Regent Park which welcomes school and camp groups as well as families and their children to listen to stories, browse our collection, and choose a favourite book to take home to keep. In February 2022, the Book Bank moved to Daniels Spectrum, in the heart of Regent Park. In August 2022, the Book Bank opened its first satellite space in St. James Town. In July 2023, the Book Bank began an expansion project, creating three new books banks in other high-needs neighbourhoods over the next three years.

The Book Bank is looking for a Storefront Manager to operate our new space in East Scarborough. Responsibilities include:

*Organize and deliver literacy-focused programming already established in the two existing Book Bank spaces. Develop new programming which addresses the specific needs and interests of the community.

*Open communication and maintain contact with community partners, especially those who will most benefit from Book Bank services - schools, EarlyOn Centres , daycares, and the like.

*Take the lead on volunteer management, including recruitment, training, and scheduling, ensuring that volunteers feel welcomed and supported.

*Attend staff meetings and work alongside other members of the Book Bank team, presenting collected and analyzed data, supporting the organization's communication and fundraising plans and other shared goals.

*Assume regular storefront responsibilities at the Book Bank space including interacting with visitors, overseeing all elements of maintaining the space, overseeing (or in some cases actually delivering) programming, interacting with customers and generally reflecting the values embedded in the mission of the Book Bank to (a) reduce poverty through book ownership as well as (b) to spread the joy of reading to all of Toronto's children.
