Albion Neighbourhood Services is seeking Board Members to join our Board of Directors team. We encourage applicants from a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives and lived experiences to better reflect our diverse community, clientele and stakeholders. Members will support Albion Neighbourhood Services’ work and mission and guide its governance, financial and day-to-day operations.




About Albion Neighbourhood Services


Albion Neighbourhood Services (ANS) has been serving the Jamestown and Rexdale community since 1971. We provide comprehensive support and resources to all members of our community, to empower individuals and families and make sure we have healthy communities. Albion Neighbourhood Services is registered as a non profit corporation (Ontario) with charitable status as approved by the Charities Branch of the Canada Revenue Agency.


ANS is seeking passionate, skilled individuals to join their Board of Directors to support the work of ANS and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. ANS Board members provide strategic, financial and operational guidance and oversight to the organization as well as participate in various Board Committees (e.g., Finance and Audit, etc.).

Responsibilities of the Board of Directors


The management and governance of ANS is the responsibility of its Directors and must be carried out in a reliable and conscientious manner. Management includes, but is not limited to, the:


  • Election of Officers and Committee Appointments
  • Appointment and supervision of the Executive Director
  • Monitoring of the financial operations and position of ANS including the approval of contracts
  • Ensuring the prudent use of all assets including the facility, people and good will;
  • Ensuring ANS is advancing it’s mission and strategic plan
  • Ensuring ANS obeys applicable laws and regulations;
  • Enactment of the By-Law

Responsibilities of Individual Board Members

  • Board members are expected to attend board meetings regularly. There are 8-12 meetings per year (2023 schedule is being developed) and are two hours in length. Members are encouraged to participate in discussions to assist the Board in making decisions that benefit ANS and its stakeholders.
  • Board members are also expected to be a member of a sub-committee (e.g. Finance and Audit etc.). The sub-committee structure is currently under review.



This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to the community and who are passionate about assisting ANS in providing critical services to the individuals and communities that it serves. Selected Board Members will ideally have:

  • Experience in one of more of the following: non- profit, community services, finance, human resources, legal, operations and governance.
  • Knowledge of public relations and the positive use of social media
  • Fundraising
