NOTICE OF BOARD VACANCIES MERCY SHIPS CANADA
Mercy Ships Canada (MSCA) has embarked on a process of board renewal. We are seeking up to three (3) dynamic independent Directors to join our Board over the next 18-months. The volunteer Board of Directors play the primary role in setting policies and overseeing the implementation of the charity’s vision, mission and strategic objectives. While based in Victoria, British Columbia, we are a national charity whose Board meets virtually. This is a remote, unpaid volunteer positon with occasional in-person participation. Members of our Board of Directors are experienced and committed leaders, bringing a wide range of knowledge, expertise and perspectives.
We encourage applicants with some previous governance experience and knowledge of charities of a similar size and complexity as MSCA. Director recruitment is based on a MSCA’s Board Skills and Experience Requirements. Candidates with strong business acumen and expertise in the areas below will be preferred to meet the identified needs arising from our Board renewal process:
• Board governance and leadership.
• Organizational development, human resources management or employment relations.
• Strategic thinking/planning from a governance perspective.
• Strategic communications and government Relations.
Applicants with fundraising, building community alliances and partnerships and volunteer program experience would be in a position to make a significant contribution in the role of Director. Individuals familiar with current and emerging surgical healthcare issues in an international development context would also be aligned with MSCA’s Board Skills and Requirements. We seek to recruit individuals who reflect the diversity of our volunteers, patients and the nation served by Mercy Ships and who are aligned with our philosophy or service. Bilingualism in Canada’s official languages would be a strong asset.
