The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Alberta Division is a provincial organization where Albertans find compassionate support, responsible care, and accessible resources.

For more than 60 years in Alberta, CMHA-AB has focused on community-based services, recovery and support for Albertans impacted by mental illness. We stand with people living in their community as they achieve their wellness goals.

CMHA Alberta Division operates as a registered charity within the not-for-profit sector. We work at the intersection of clinical and local mental health care. Our programs, projects and services are developed to address the unique needs of individuals and communities. We work to advocate for better mental health for all.

The Volunteer Role

CMHA, Alberta Division is looking for a volunteer to help manage and create social media and website content on our channels.

The “Ask” (aka Responsibilities):

Social Media

  • In collaboration with the Communications team, assist with the development of marketing campaigns for CMHA, Alberta Division and its projects, including message development, scheduling and implementation.
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications.
  • Create original text and visual content on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and our website.
  • Assist the Communications Advisor with the creation of graphics.

Copy Writing & Research

  • Article and blog writing and editing.
  • Research on mental health, mental illness and public health for communications assets and message development.

Volunteer Competencies & Requirements

To be successful in this position, volunteers possess the following:

  • Background in graphic design, working with brand standards and comfortable working in Canva.
  • Background in content creation/communications type roles and familiar with social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and MailChimp.
  • Effective interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating formally, informally, in groups and one-on-one. Able to obtain and share information, ideas, and problems.  Able to ask for advice, support and accept feedback.
  • Fluency using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Ability to follow directions and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • Office/Work from Home position; Must be located in Alberta.
  • Own computer is required.
  • This position is an ongoing, casual, volunteer position, working approximately 8-12 hours per month (schedule can be flexible).
