Are you a mid-to-senior level professional looking to invest in the next generation and committed to advancing gender equity?

Rise on Boards (formerly Girls on Boards) is recruiting for women and/or gender-marginalized professionals with governance and/or mentoring experience to volunteer as a Rise on Boards coach for one year.

What is Rise on Boards?

Rise on Boards (formerly Girls on Boards) is putting forward a new vision for governance in Canada. By placing experienced emerging leaders (“Young Directors”) from diverse backgrounds at non-profit governance boards, Rise on Boards is building the new generation of decision-makers. Young leaders of diverse backgrounds and identities have been left out of these spaces for too long. To build equitable boards, we are training a new generation of board directors who would otherwise be left out of decision-making in organizations. Since 2017, the Rise on Boards program (formerly Girls on Boards) has trained and placed 170 emerging leaders from a range of backgrounds and experiences at the board table for the first time.

Throughout their board appointment, each Young Director is supported by volunteer coach. Coaches help young leaders develop their professional and personal goals and assist them in navigating issues related to the program.  Coaches are matched with a Young Director at the beginning of their board placement. Please note that board dates are staggered and will begin in Fall 2023.

What are we asking?

As a coach, we ask you to commit one-year to:

  • Complete the coaching program, with the assistance of a coaching handbook
  • First three 3 months: meet twice monthly (1-2 hours per meeting)
  • Ensuing months: meet once a month (1-2 hours per meeting)
  • Meet with Young Director and their Board Mentor three times during their board placement (1-2 hours per meeting)
  • Attend the Coach welcome and onboarding session (1-2 hours)
  • Attend Fora’s Equity on Board training. Upon completion, all participants will receive a LinkedIn badge (3 hours)
  • Participate in Rise on Boards’ program evaluation (one survey and one interview).
