closes in 37 days (Sun, 30 Apr)

Creative Hub 1352 is looking for volunteers to join our Lakeview Farmers' Market planning team, which develops, plans, prepares, and delivers this exciting project, now in its fourth season. The planning team is always busy organizing for the Farmers' Market which runs from late May until late October 2023 at the Small Arms Inspection Building (SAIB), located at 1352 Lakeshore Road East, Mississauga. The goal of the Market is to enrich lives by providing access to locally grown and sourced healthy food, organic and artisanal products and provide an income opportunity for local farmers, producers and artisans. A collateral benefit is that the public attending the Market will have the opportunity to learn about our growing cultural presence in the local community.

Volunteers will be invited to work with the seasonal Market Manager and other Committee members with various organizational, administrative, and promotional tasks as well as being present at the weekly markets, as necessitated by the role(s) undertaken.  We are seeking individuals with a wide range of skills in various areas such as marketing, business, financial, organizational, event planning, education, and agricultural/farming knowledge to help with a broad spectrum of committee activities.  On Market day, we need volunteers to assist the Market Manager in overseeing set-up and tear-down, putting up temporary signage around the building, being available to assist vendors and customers, trouble shooting (should any issues arise), and tracking vendor and customer attendance.

Volunteers contemplating a career in event planning, logistics, or the food (fresh produce) industry will benefit by joining our planning team.

Requirements:

  • Excellent 'customer service' opportunity, as well, with the further benefit that you'll be promoting good nutrition in your local community
  • Be a valuable team member with CH1352 and its Farmers' Market!
  • 'Network' with staff, volunteers, and the public (expand your 'connectivity' in the Mississauga community)
  • Definitely a worthwhile learning experience, and you will bring your talent and skills to the Market!
  • Volunteer experience with a farmers' market, community organization, and/or not-for-profit is an asset but not necessary
  • Knowledge of/willingness to learn various rules and regulations affecting farmers' markets and sales of food
  • Co-operative nature and ability to work with other committee members, the Market vendors and the public (our customers)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skills and experience in one or more areas is welcome: - event planning - organizational (small business) - financial - education - agriculture/farming (esp. delivery to market/food handling & safety on site)
  • Computer skills (Excel, WORD, social media) are helpful in the areas of Market promotion, vendor tracking/billing, etc.
  • Connections with the local community and/or vendors will assist this initiative greatly
  • Logistical experience, namely ability to set up tables, tents and signage, plus tear down/site restoration.
