Our Organizaiton.

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Our Vancouver chapter has been operational since November 2018 and has completed over 1,000 moves in that time span.

• Time: Each move varies from 3-5 hours. We encourage 1-2 moves/month.
• Flexibility: Sign up for moves, based on your availability.
• Exercise: This role provides the opportunity for movement - great for those who sit at a desk!
• Impact: Our clients are incredibly grateful and you’ll hear from them directly.

What you will do.

In a group of 2-5 movers and drivers, volunteers assist on each move by loading/unloading a client’s belongings and transporting the client to their new home or a storage facility. Vehicles and/or trucks are provided for the move and every step of the process is supported by move coordinators.

What you need.

• Passion for supporting women and children fleeing violence and abuse.
• Tact, discretion, high maturity level and good judgment.
• Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Able to lift moderately heavy boxes/furniture, min. 20lbs.
• Clean driving history (driver only).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
