We are seeking 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and allies to volunteer their time, as well as professional and lived experience, to advance the ARC Foundation’s mission. Priority consideration will be given to those candidates living in – and with a knowledge of – other geographic areas of Canada beyond B.C., along with individuals who represent a broad intersection of identities and underrepresented voices within, and beyond, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Summary

ARC Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that supports the implementation of SOGI-inclusive education through the delivery of SOGI 1 2 3 in the K-12 education system in Canada.

Our Vision: A world where children and youth of all sexual orientations and gender identities live authentic lives.

Our Mission: To foster Awareness, Respect and Capacity through SOGI-inclusive K-12 education.

With successful ongoing delivery of SOGI 1 2 3 in B.C. and Alberta for over seven years, and a goal to grow across Canada in response to the demand, ARC is seeking to increase the diversity and geographic range of its board members.

We aim for a Board composition that demonstrates a mix of expertise and experience, both professional and lived and we are seeking additional individuals to join the Board to enhance those skills and expertise as we expand SOGI 1 2 3. We believe that a well-functioning Board should be made up of individuals who, collectively, bring diverse backgrounds, views, and perspectives to our mission and vision, enhance the achievement of our strategic objectives, and provide effective governance and oversight. See a current list of ARC Foundation’s Board of Directors.

 About ARC Foundation

We focus our current efforts on SOGI 1 2 3, given its track record and growth.  SOGI 1 2 3 helps educators make schools safer and more inclusive for students of all sexual orientations and gender identities (SOGI).

SOGI 1 2 3 was developed by educators, for educators, through in-depth consultation and collaboration.

SOGI 1 focuses on policy and procedures;

SOGI 2 on the school environment; and

SOGI 3 on resources and tools for educators and others in the school community.

SOGI 1 2 3 accelerates systemic change and grassroots action, including:

  • Building bridges between provincial institutions and associations so that more effective, sustainable, and accelerated change can take place.
  • Creating a provincial SOGI educator network through which educators learn from each other and lead change together.
  • Creating professional development and classroom resources with educators, for educators, that are ready to use, easy to access, and open to customization.

We are looking for a minimum three-year (one term) commitment, renewable for up to two further terms.

The Board has four regularly scheduled quarterly meetings per year as well as one annual in-person 1 ½ day strategic planning session.  The Board may hold additional meetings as required, and there may be committee, individual or other tasks to work on between meetings, along with occasional campaign or event-based fundraising support requested. Directors are expected to attend all meetings in person or by video/teleconference and to attend the annual strategic planning session in person.  There are no standing committees, but Board Directors may be asked to assist with various tasks or ad-hoc committees on an as needed basis.  Travel, meals, accommodation, and other support expenses are covered when meeting in person.
