The Organization

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Our Vancouver chapter has been operational since November 2018 and has completed over 1,050 moves in that time span.

 

The Role

The Social Media Coordinator will have an integral role in the Marketing and Communications team of Shelter Movers Vancouver. This role reports directly to the Marketing and Communications Manager with support and oversight provided by the National Director of Marketing and Communications. The Social Media Coordinator will have ownership of the social media platforms for Vancouver and ensure that content is produced in accordance with the national strategy and adheres to brand guidelines. 

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Scheduling, direct publishing, responding to social inboxes, and community engagement.
  • Developing a monthly social media content calendar based on national strategy
  • Creating original content (text, image, video) with a focus on chapter updates, volunteer and partner profiles, and local news
  • Liaise with other teams (Fund Development, Volunteer Services, Operations) to support content development for their teams needs

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Professional experience managing and creating content for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • The ability to adjust external communication style to maintain a brand voice that is supportive, approachable, trauma-informed, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, client-centered, LGBTQI+ inclusive and accurate in all areas of communication
  • Experience using Hootsuite or Meta Business Suite to manage social media platforms 
  • Ability to analyze data, insights, and trends and adjust course as needed
  • Strong interest in the Gender Based Violence (GBV) sector
  • Ability to maintain a voice that is supportive, approachable, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and inclusive in all areas of communication
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and shift priorities as necessary

 

Role Details

  • 5-7 hours per week
  • Flexible volunteer schedule and hours
  • A minimum 6-month commitment is strongly preferred. 
  • Some evening and weekend availability as needed
  • Remote position (Preference to be based in Metro Vancouver with occasional meetings (in-person and/or conference calls.)
  • This is an unpaid volunteer position
