Position Summary:
As a Director on the Board of New West Society, you will play a crucial role in steering our strategic direction, ensuring financial stability, and overseeing the society’s governance. This role demands a commitment to New West Society's values and mission, as well as a willingness to advocate on its behalf.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in quarterly board meetings and annual strategic meetings.
  • Collaborate with other board members to develop strategic plans and monitor their execution.
  • Ensure financial health through budget approval and financial planning oversight.
  • Uphold legal and ethical integrity, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to one of the following committees or positions:
    • Human Resources Committee: Oversees and ensures that management is providing good human resource practices in a consistent well-governed manner; focusing on recruitment strategies, volunteer member development, and succession planning.
    • Fund Development Committee: Creates, directs and monitors a comprehensive, tactical fund development plan for operational revenue generation.  Develop fundraising strategies, engage with donors, and oversee fundraising events.
    • Finance Committee: Ensures that financial processes and systems are effective, reviews financial statements for presentation to the Board for approval and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and adherence to accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations.   
    • Secretary: An executive member of the Board responsible for stewardship of the governance records of the Society including the recording of minutes of all Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting of the membership.


  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit or governance role.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit management and community engagement.
  • Experience in strategic planning and organization management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to commit 2 - 5 hours per month to board duties and committee responsibilities.
