Study Buddy:
The Study Buddy mentoring program supports self-identifying girls, non-binary, transgender and gender-diverse youth (aged 7-17), to improve their educational performance and build self-confidence.
Mentors act as positive academic role model, offering educational support and helping to set and achieve appropriate educational goals. Continued participation in the program can promote the importance of staying in school and improve attendance.
The program requires one tutoring session per week (one hour) for a minimum of six months with sessions taking place at a mutually-agreeable location (e.g. library). The Study Buddy program can run year-round and we encourage matches to agree on a summer schedule to continue building a stronger connection.
The key benefits of the Study Buddy program for girls and gender-diverse youth:
With the support of a Study Buddy tutor, girls and gender-diverse youth are encouraged and equipped to meet their academic goals, which in turn contributes towards better classroom engagement, school confidence and overall self-esteem.
