Taber and District Community Adult Learning Association (TDCALA) is in Rural Southern Alberta, serving the County of Warner and the MD of Taber regions; the municipalities of Coutts, Milk River, Stirling, Raymond, Taber, Vauxhall, Enchant, Hays, Barnwell, and Grassy Lake.


TDCALA, Situated in First Nations Treaty 7 and Foothills Métis District 1, is a non-profit community-based charity organization that delivers settlement and employment programs in rural southern Alberta, education, language, translation, and on-the-job training for youth with barriers; as well as supports literacy and essential skills (Skills for Success) development using a strength based, client/learner centric approach in preparation for work, continuous and relevant learning, and life in the communities in our service region. Our programs and services focus on community capacity building, literacy development and foundational learning; community support services; supporting small business in rural Southern Alberta with their HR and employee training supports.


TDCALA acts as a community services hub that provides connections for learning opportunities, client support/ resources, and knowledgeable referrals for community services. TDCALA staff identify strengths and areas in need of development for each client or learner, acknowledge the learner’s needs and goals, and assist them to move forward towards their goals. TDCALA is flexible, innovative, and responsive to client/learner and community needs, providing both structured classes and personalized service for short-term goals. These services lead to academic, social and economic benefits for the learner and the community.


Our present Board of Directors are voluntary members, comprising of a Board Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Board Directors representing the Town of Taber, MD of Taber, County of Warner, Ministry of Advanced Education (Govt. of Alberta), and members at large. We’re looking to welcoming two more Board Directors, who will be reimbursed travelling expense / mileage if commuting from out of town, who are experienced in Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Employment/Corporate Law, and/or strategic management/ stakeholder experience, preferably in a charity/ non-profit organization.

 

Job Overview
As a Board Member, you will play a crucial role in the governance and strategic direction of the organization. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to decision-making processes, drive initiatives, and shape the future of the organization.

 

Responsibilities
- Participate in board meetings and discussions to provide input on key decisions
- Collaborate with other board members to establish organizational goals and strategies
- Oversee and evaluate the organization's performance against its objectives
- Engage in fundraising activities and support financial sustainability efforts
- Monitor compliance with legal and ethical standards
- Support the recruitment and evaluation of executive leadership
- Represent the organization at public events and engage in community outreach

 

Qualifications
- Ability to educate and inform stakeholders on organizational matters
- Excellent public speaking abilities to represent the organization effectively
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a commitment to ethical governance
