Job Title: Building Attendant


Reports To: Facilities Coordinator (FC)


Role: Provides a safe and secure space while assisting user groups for the Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) and Neighbourhood Gym (QVNG). Completes administrative tasks involving the facilities. Provides a friendly and welcoming environment for community. Completes light cleaning and maintenance tasks at both locations.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


• Responsible for the safety and security of the Centre, Gym, and all participants during scheduled shifts
• Provides access to user groups, facilitates the orientation of the rented space, and implements facility use expectations
• Reviews rental agreement and required procedures with user groups
• Assists with set-up and take-down of spaces when required, such as tables and chairs, movement of existing furniture, media equipment, general cleaning, and removal of refuse
• Monitors the facilities for safety or potential hazards, correcting as able, and reporting concerns to the FC or applicable person
• Secures and arms the building after user group departures
• Assists in light administrative tasks related to user groups and the facilities such as invoicing and providing receipts for payment, and answering questions about rentals, programs, and the agency
• Assists with statistical tracking for program reports, such as number of attendees and frequency of rentals
• Performs building maintenance tasks such as cleaning program spaces and equipment, organizing resources, and small repair tasks to the interior and exterior of the buildings
• To be familiar with and implement QVCC’s policies, procedures, and practices, relevant to the position
• Other related duties as required by the FC or Executive Director


Qualifications:


• Commitment to anti-oppressive, decolonial, and anti-racist practice
• Ability to work with integrity and respect in a diverse, multi-cultural community centre
• High School graduation
• Relevant post-secondary education or training such as facility maintenance is an asset
• Demonstrated skills in general office duties such as clerical procedures, typing, document/report preparation, and knowledge of basic computer applications.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
• Ability to work with a diverse population with sensitivity and a commitment to service
• Good physical health is required for the movement of furniture or equipment.
• Valid First Aid Certificate, CPR and AED Training
• Clear Criminal Record Check


Recognition:


This is a volunteer position at our Centre. Because of the level of responsibility and key-holder requirements, an Honourarium is provided at $19.85 per hour, for each scheduled shift.

Time Commitment:


This is a flexible on-call position, scheduled around the Building Attendant’s availability and rental groups’ needs. Shifts vary between 2 to 8 hours, according to rental times. Evening and/or weekend shifts are typical, during times when QVCC is not open for regular business.
