In 2025, the Nature Sanctuary will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary!
We are looking for additional board members to support this celebration
and to help us build a 50-year Vision for the future.
The Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary is a charitable, non−profit environmental conservation and education organization in Saanich. Our Board of Directors follows leading governance practices to meet our shared mission to conserve and restore Nature Sanctuary lands and waters while inspiring stewardship through community engagement and collaboration.
We acknowledge the lək ̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory the Nature Sanctuary stands, and the lək ̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
We respect the vital relationships of First Peoples with these lands and waters for countless generations. We are honoured to receive Indigenous guidance and welcome collaboration in stewardship and appreciation of the Nature Sanctuary.

We are seeking people who are visionary, strategic, and collaborative to join our dedicated team of volunteer Board of Directors. Currently, we are looking for expertise in the following areas:
Charitable Fundraising
Human Resources
Membership & Community Engagement
Ideal Board members bring a commitment to reconciliation and anti-oppression, the ability to navigate complex issues with a balanced and adaptable approach and have skill (or a willingness for training) in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) and M365, Teams. You enjoy working as part of a team and are motivated to help with projects that bring our community closer to our shared mission. This role involves approximately 8 to 12 hours per month for board and task group meetings and related work, plus attendance at two to three annual community events. Applicants should be Capital Regional District (CRD) residents and must complete a Criminal Record Check (free for volunteers).
