Who is Sickle Cell Awareness of Ontario (SCAGO)?


It is a leading charitable patient organization providing evidence-based support to families with children, adolescents, and adults, with SCD across the province's four regions. It supports clinical research, engages in psycho-social research, health promotion, patients and care providers’ education, community awareness, and the development of best practices guidelines.


Since its establishment, SCAGO invests 100% of its resources in improving the quality of life of individuals and families affected by SCD. It engages in evidentiary advocacy on their behalf with the government, schools, and the healthcare system.


We rely on the generous support of our volunteers, donors, and partners in our shared mission to improve the lives of Ontarians living with SCD, and ultimately to find a cure for this devastating disease.


The ideal candidate(s) will have:

  • Minimum of 1-year managing social media platforms, with extensive knowledge of each platform and respective features
  • Experience copywriting and content development for social media and paid ads
  • Experience in developing and executing comprehensive social media campaigns
  • Must be well versed in Buffer - scheduling, reporting etc. (preferred)
  • Experience developing paid social media campaigns


  • Work alongside the Communications & Marketing Manager to effectively execute marketing strategies through SCAGO social media channels.
  • Work closely with Creative Team members - thoughtfully select images and write content aligned with SCAGO's mission, vision and ethics.
  • Assist in social media strategies to ensure key performance indicators are met and/or exceeded for all SCAGO marketing campaigns, including but not limited to member acquisition, SCAGO Educational program/webinar series, SCAGO advocacy campaigns, newsletter subscriptions, fundraising campaigns, SCAGO events, etc.
  • Experience in developing and schedule social media content that drives engagement and conversion.
  • Help develop content, schedule and report on paid social media campaigns.
  • Develop and schedule content for all SCAGO social media channels - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn - in alignment with the SCAGO Content Calendar.
  • Monitor social media channels daily and engage with followers consistently.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to audience inquiries daily.
  • Provide monthly updates regarding social media activity and work with the PWB teams to further enhance our content and strategies.

Time Commitment: * Volunteer position.* Approximately 5-10 hours per week.
