Director- Yoga for Humanity

Position: Director- Yoga for Humanity – Volunteer position

Who we are:
Help Heal Humanity (HHH) a North American non-profit organization with a mandate to provide education and nourishment to some of the most “at risk” youth and children on our planet today. Our efforts are focused on the Canaan and Citi Soleil region in Haiti, where over 4.5 million people go without electricity, running water, food, resources and have received absolutely no form of government support. HHH achieves these goals in part through the creation and implementation of a number of fundraising events including our annual Local Dinner Parties and Global Dining for Humanity Events, Art and Music for Humanity, Travel for Humanity, Yoga and Fitness for Humanity. We also, partner with other organizations to grow our awareness and purpose on the planet. Since we began in 2011, we have successfully built a school in Canaan Haiti that educates and empowers 121 primary students per day.

Principal Duties:
Help Heal Humanity is looking for a Director- Yoga for Humanity Program. Yoga means union. Through our global yoga retreats, by-donation yoga workshops, classes, and events, we raise funds and awareness to support our HHH mission, while inspiring people through the power of yoga.

Yoga for Humanity is healing our own minds, bodies and spirits, while giving back to community. It is a call to action to all yogis', studio owners, teachers, gurus and students to use the healing benefits of yoga to empower, inspire and give back to others.

Responsibilities:

  • Be in charge of organizing, conducting and leading yoga sessions, retreats.
  • Assist participants to achieve precise alignment.
  • Demonstrate practice and techniques.
  • Possess the ability to move energy through the body.
  • Transform energy during the warm-up, build-up and cool-down stages.
  • Motivate participants with words of encouragement.
  • Connect with participants of yoga sessions through fun, intelligent sequencing.
  • Offer training recommendations to improve the practice of yoga.
  • Engage in administrative duties.

Education:

A yoga instructor requires some experience, which you can receive through a yoga teacher training program. Instructors receive a credential based on how many hours of teaching experience they have, and whether or not they’ve learned a specialty, like hot yoga or yoga for kids.

Qualifications:

  • Believe and follow HHH vision and mission statement.
  • Physical fitness and yoga knowledge. It goes without saying that you’ll have to be in good shape to demonstrate good yoga technique and offer instruction at advanced levels. The more you’ve learned about different yoga series, the more you can offer to your clients and employers.
  • Excellent communication. The most important role of a yoga instructor is explaining how to move the body and what this movement should feel like. You’ll need the language and personality to connect with your clients.
  • Motivational skills. Yoga can be a physical and mental struggle, so be ready to push and challenge your students, as well as encourage and congratulate them.

Hours: As a volunteer position we are looking for a minimum of 2hrs per week up to 10-12hrs per month. We understand that that is a big time commitment but we are looking for a consistent commitment.

Term: One to two years, appointed or elected by the HHH team.
