About Easter Seals

Easter Seals BC & Yukon is one of British Columbia’s legacy charities operating for over six decades to provide programs and services to better the lives of children and adults with diverse abilities. Operated by the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities (Society), Easter Seals BC & Yukon has helped 1.1 million families in need through transportation services, Easter Seals Camps, educational classes, Easter Seals House, post-secondary bursaries at regional colleges and universities, community access services, and patient care programs.

As a registered charity, the Society relies on the generosity of donors to fund their programs and services. Through individual and corporate giving, grants, special events, and major gifts and bequests, the Society directs and stewards its funds with the strategic guidance and fiduciary oversight from its Board of Directors.

What You’ll Do

The role of the Treasurer is to ensure financial accountability of the organization to guarantee fiscal responsibility.

It is important to note that although the Treasurer ensures that these responsibilities are met, much of the work may be delegated to paid staff or volunteers.

Given these responsibilities, the Treasurer often acts as an information and reference point for the Chair and other committee members: clarifying past practice and decisions; confirming legal requirements; and retrieving relevant documentation. The President/CEO will provide a designated paid staff to prepare and present the financial statements.

Responsibilities

• Committed to the work of the of Easter Seals BC/Y.
• Gives quarterly reports to the Board on the financial state of the organization.
• Part of the Finance Committee.
• Acts as a signing officer of the Board.
• Ensures current and acceptable financial practices are in place in the organization.
• Ensures development and board review of financial policies and procedures.
• Meets annually with the auditor to finalize the financial statements of the organization.
• Speaks for the budget in partnership with the President/CEO.

Time Commitment: 7-10 hours per month for 2 year term for Board Responsibilities, with the option of continuing for a maximum of 3 2 year terms. Additional time may be required for other volunteer roles taken on during term of Board service.
