Georgian Riding Association for Challenged Equestrians (G.R.A.C.E.), a non-profit registered charity.

Our Mission:

Established in 1989, the G.R.A.C.E. Equestrian Center is located in the municipality of Georgian Bluffs, near Owen Sound, Ontario. We provide therapeutic horseback programs for challenged children and adults in Grey and Bruce Counties. At G.R.A.C.E., our staff and volunteers are driven by a single goal: to help make life better, healthier and happier for individuals with physical, mental and/or emotional challenges. Our certified instructors, specialized therapists and volunteers work with riders of all levels to introduce them to the joys and challenges of caring for and riding our specially trained ponies and horses. Confidence, excitement, and new relationships with the instructors and these beautiful animals are the result of this experience. . We regard our very special horses as members of the team and treat them year-round with all the care, affection and attention they deserve.

The Position:

G.R.A.C.E. is currently looking for a new Board Member who will share the values of the organization and wishes to help advance our Mission by bringing to bear his/her knowledge, expertise, skills and life experience. This is a volunteer position approved by the Board of Directors for a renewable two-year term.


As a Board Member, you will be expected to:

  • Attend Board meetings (typically two hours in length, once per calendar quarter). Given the COVID-19 situation in Ontario, meetings are held remotely until further notice.
  • Participate in one of our Working Groups (such as our Development WG (fundraising), our Outreach WG (communications), Programming WG or Operations WG (horses/barn), where your contribution is matched with specific areas of mutual interest.
  • Abide by the by-laws, code of conduct and other policies that apply to the organization.
  • Attend G.R.A.C.E.’s Annual General Meeting held normally in late Spring.
  • Provide financial oversight and strategic input aimed at growing the organization.
  • Become a G.R.A.C.E. Ambassador in the wider community.
  • Seek funding opportunities, both public and private, relevant to the advancement of the organization.

Candidate’s Attributes:

  • A good understanding of governance
  • Experience in strategic planning
  • Strong personal and/or professional networks
  • Marketing and/or social media and/or media relations knowledge
  • Ability to build relationships that help advance the organization
  • Legal knowledge (nice to have)
  • Government relations (nice to have)
  • Knowledge of animal welfare (nice to have)
