We're a charitable organization that's been serving the St Albert, Sturgeon County, Parkland County and surrounding communities for over 30 years. We work with families and individuals to address the impacts of domestic abuse and violence and provide education to prevent domestic abuse in our communities.

Our Board of Directors works in a governance & policy capacity, providing fiduciary oversight to the organization and manages the Executive Director. 

The roles and responsibilities of the Board include:

  • Responsibility for effective governance of SAIF, including management of the Executive Director.
  • Providing strategic insight to SAIF staff related to its vision, priorities, effective use of resources and risk management of the organization.
  • Establishing policies, rules and regulations for SAIF and the use of its assets.
  • Attending monthly board meetings and serving on various committees.
  • Approving an annual budget and business plan for SAIF.
  • Other duties as needed. 

Our ideal candidate would possess:

  • An ability to work in a collaborative environment, including the ability to build trust and relationships with various stakeholders
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to diverse needs
  • Passion for the prevention of domestic abuse & violence and a desire to support those impacted by abuse.
  • Previous experience working in nonprofit boards and governance will be considered an asset
  • Background in one or more of the following is an asset: Accounting or finance, Board Fundraising, First Responders to Domestic Crisis Situations. 

Time commitments for the role:

  • Able to commit to a monthly Board meetings & other meetings as called when necessary.
  • Meet minimum fundraising commitments annually.
  • Board Members are elected for 2-3 year terms.
  • Able to attend SAIF's major annual events (approx. 3-4) that are held throughout the year.

Terms are 2-3 years and the time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours per month (including Board and Committee meetings in addition to some fundraising expectations). To learn more, please visit stopabuse.ca.
