Plan Institute is looking for a new Treasurer to join our current Board of Directors!
Plan Institute is a non-profit social enterprise and registered charity that works to improve
the lives of people with disabilities through innovation, education, and leadership.


  • Innovation– We engage in social innovation through community-based projects and
  • Education– We offer educational initiatives designed for individuals, families, healthcare
    practitioners, and organizations. These include workshops, online courses, retreats,
    publications, and other resources.
  • Leadership– We provide collaborative leadership by working together with a diverse
    group of stakeholders to encourage public policy reform and system transformation.

Plan Institute builds on the 30 years of PLAN’s (Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network)
experience by working with families to build a good life for people with disabilities. We
currently have 7 affiliate organizations throughout Canada and the United States.

Desired Skills and Experience for the position:

  • A person with a disability or lived experience with a disability
  • Professional experience in any of the following areas: finance and accounting
  • Passionate about improving the lives of people with disabilities
  • Experience as a Board member of a not-for-profit
  • Knowledge of the disability community in BC and Canada

If appointed, the Treasurer will be responsible for overseeing the financial matters of the
charity and the financial reports provided by staff and ensure that the charity is in line with
good practice and in accordance with the organization's governing documents and legal



  • The new board member would be elected at our September 14th, 2021 AGM
  • The Board meets five (5) times per year. Additional meetings may be called at the
    request of the Board Chair if necessary.
  • Annual General Meeting is held in September each year.
  • Each board meeting will be from one and half to two hours in length.
  • Board meetings are all held remotely via Zoom.

How long are members on the Board for?

  • Board members’ terms are three years each
  • Maximum term is two consecutive terms (six years), after which Board members
    are required to step down for one year before being eligible to run again.
