Shelter Movers provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children fleeing abuse. We are the only organization of our kind in Canada, and our volunteers are no less exceptional. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 15,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.  Our Vancouver chapter has been operational since November 2018 and has completed over 45 moves in that time span. We are growing and looking to add caring and compassionate people to our volunteer team.

 

Position Summary: 

The Volunteer Services Coordinator works as part of a team, making sure that both Shelter Movers’ organizational needs and individual volunteers’ needs are met. In the near future as the volunteer services team builds, the coordinator will be the “support” to the volunteer services admin team.  Within this team, there will be administrative/office duties such as:

  • Posting volunteer opportunities and responding to inquiries.
  • Interviewing and matching applicants to roles within Shelter Movers.
  • Assisting with new volunteer orientations.
  • Maintaining a volunteer database (data entry, checking data integrity, and generating reports.)

The role of the coordinator will be focused on being the public’s first point of contact with Shelter Movers and properly on-boarding new volunteers.

 

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Coordinator will include:

  • Advising volunteer team members on volunteer-related issues.
  • Responding to volunteer questions and concerns.
  • Soliciting, monitoring, and responding to ongoing feedback.
  • Supporting content generation for internal & external communications (in collaboration with the communications team).
  • Administering Shelter Movers’ internal volunteer recognition programs and awards.
  • Applying for external volunteer recognition and awards.
  • Speaking about Shelter Movers at volunteer fairs, fundraising, and other community events.
  • Participating in strategic planning processes for Volunteer Services and Shelter Movers as a whole.

  • Experience in the operations of a social service agency, including service coordination and direct client interaction.
  • Training in preparation for your role, and access to ongoing training opportunities.
  • The ability to work with a great team of passionate volunteers and supporters.
  • After 3 months of satisfactory service, a confirmation of volunteering can be provided. 
  • After 6 months of satisfactory service, a personalized reference letter can be provided.

Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete a police check, and attend an orientation of no more than three hours.
