Mission Possible is a non-profit organization and social enterprise located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. We support individuals challenged by homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental illness, and other barriers to employment to achieve a renewed sense of dignity and purpose through meaningful work. Through our employment readiness program, and our social enterprises, MP Maintenance & MP Neighbours, we equip our program participants with the skills, confidence, and support they need to rejoin the workforce and rebuild a self-sustainable livelihood for themselves.

Position Summary:

The Housing Support Volunteer will work alongside participants in the Employment Readiness Program to provide additional support around finding and applying for housing. This includes and is not limited to researching housing options that fulfill participants’ needs, accompanying them to housing offices, and assisting with the application process or phone calls. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Community Engagement Coordinator. For this role, it is important to work with compassion and empathy towards each participant’s challenges, and empower individuals to make positive movement toward their own self-directed housing goals. A vulnerable sector background check will be required; cost will be covered. 


The Housing Support Volunteer will: 

  • Meet one-on-one with participants and let them lead with their own housing questions
  • Provide support in application process, phone calls, filling out forms, etc.
  • Provide support to help participants reach their housing goals and needs  
  • Keep themselves informed about the newest social housing developments and changes in the Greater Vancouver area
  • If needed, has the ability to accompany participants to meetings or appointments


Our ideal candidate has:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Available to work during the week (some time between 9 am-3 pm)
  • Experience working with the DTES community is an asset
  • Experience working with individuals who experience barriers to housing is an asset
  • Knowledge of the social housing systems is an asset
