TCA Call for Board of Directors- November 2021

Seeking Board Members from Toronto’s Highly Diverse Neighborhoods

Are you retired and looking for ways to give back to your community? Then this might be an exciting opportunity for you!

The Toronto Council on Aging (TCA) is seeking enthusiastic, creative, and committed individuals who share a passion for enhancing the lives of Toronto’s older adult community. The TCA is governed by an intergenerational 15-person volunteer Board of Directors. There are currently Director vacancies for older adults (over 55) to serve a three-year term.

About the Organization

The TCA is a charitable non-profit agency which was incorporated in 1999. TCA is one of many similar Councils on Aging across Ontario and Canada. The mission of the TCA is to provide leadership and education to enhance the experience of aging and encourage age-friendly policies and practices in Toronto’s workplaces, services, organizations and neighborhoods. Our work centers around a shared vision for a community that respects, values, and empowers its older adults and provides them with opportunities to participate fully in their community. The Council is seeking board members with a strong interest in promoting ‘aging well’ in our community.

Presently, the TCA is working on several community development projects to help create an Age-Friendly City of Toronto. All projects are organized within the 3 active TCA Committees:

  1. Communications
  2. Fundraising
  3. Outreach & Membership

Skills and Experience

We are interested in individuals with the following skills and areas of expertise:

  • Community Outreach with newcomer, racialized and ethnic minorities
  • Fundraising
  • Event Planning
  • Marketing and Promotion
  • Familiarity with Senior Services (Recreation, Health Care)
  • Previous work with non-profit organizations

Until September 2022, the majority of the work completed by the TCA Board of Directors will occur in a virtual capacity. Individuals interested in joining the Board must be open to learning new online forms of communication and information sharing such as Zoom and Google Drive.

Promoting an Inclusive Board

The TCA strives to have a Board that mirrors the diversity of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. We strongly encourage those persons with the following lived experiences to consider applying:
