About Shelter Movers:

Shelter Movers provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children fleeing abuse. We are the only service of this kind in Canada, and our volunteers are who make us exceptional. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 15,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

Shelter Movers Vancouver has been operational since November 2018 and has completed over 700 moves to date. We are growing and looking to add caring and compassionate people to our volunteer team.


Position Summary:
The Facilitator will have an integral role in the volunteer recruitment process. The Facilitator will be responsible for leading and presenting the Shelter Mover’s Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session to volunteers completing the onboarding process in Vancouver.


Primary Responsibilities
- Train and engage volunteer applicants by leading 1-2 Trauma-Informed Care Orientation sessions per month
- Gather and share knowledge on critical concepts of Violence Against Women and the procedures, values and impact of Shelter Movers
- Have regular check-ins with the Volunteer Services Manager and Chapter Director
- Coordinate with other Training Facilitators and the Volunteer Services team
- Review the Trauma-Informed Care Orientation content and make changes to presentation content if necessary

Skills, Experience and Education
- Strong ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially strong public speaking skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Comfortable identifying and responding to different group dynamics
- High level of comfort in leading and facilitating orientation sessions
- Patience, empathy, emotional intelligence, active listening skills, and ability to handle difficult conversations
- Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to apply an anti-oppressive lens to individuals
- Tact, discretion, high maturity level and good judgment
- Reliable work habits
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to protect client and volunteer confidentiality
- Experience in Public Speaking a strong asset
- A long-term interest in the Violence Against Women (VAW) sector, and Volunteer Management/Non-Profit Management an asset


Other Requirements
Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, sign a confidentiality agreement, complete and pass a police reference check, and attend a Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session. Volunteer Services Training Facilitators will be completing additional role-specific training.

Estimated Time Requirements
- 4-7 hours/month ongoing
- This is an unpaid volunteer position
