Vivo is a charity on a mission to create healthier generations through two platforms: our Centre for Wellbeing and Innovation Collaboratory. Together, we empower Canadians to connect, care for and advocate more for their health, community and the planet.
We currently have an attractive opportunity for an experienced Board Treasurer. You’ll be joining a sophisticated organization at an exciting stage of its evolution. We are currently raising the final 1% of funds for our $60 million expansion and renovation. Construction is well under way and we are on schedule and on budget to fully welcome our community back in early 2023. We have also invested more than $6 million in our Research and Innovation work to further our cause of raising healthier generations.
As our new Treasurer, you’ll join a strategic governance board focused on providing oversight, foresight, insight and relationships to the CEO and organization. You’ll be part of a governance board that will help Vivo chart the course for the next chapter in its journey. You’ll also provide oversight for a seasoned senior leadership team that manages what will soon be 180 talented employees.
Our board meets six times a year and gathers annually for our Annual General Meeting and Board Planning Advance – because at Vivo, we don’t retreat, we advance! As part of our commitment to governance excellence, we are currently pursuing accreditation through Imagine Canada’s Standards Program.
What we’re seeking
Our ideal candidate is a strategic and experienced leader with governance board experience, organizational-level financial and risk management experience, and formal financial training and/or an accounting designation. You can think beyond the details to see the patterns and big picture, you ask insightful questions diplomatically, and you have outstanding people and relationship management skills.

Our directors commit to a minimum three-year term and roughly 10 hours per month. This can increase slightly around Vivo’s AGM, Board Advance and audit. The board meets six times a year and committees typically meet six times as well.
Per Vivo’s bylaws, our Treasurer serves as Chair of our Audit, Risk and Finance Committee. Working with senior staff, consultants, and the members of the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee, you will help ensure prudent financial and risk management at Vivo by providing oversight of budgeting, financial reporting, risk management, reserve funds and capital investment, the audit process and compliance with laws and regulations.
