Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time
Location: Vegreville, Alberta
Hours of Work Per Week: 36+
Scheduled Days & Hours Each Week:  12 hour day shifts (7am to 7pm) on a 2-week rotation

Week 1: Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat

Week 2: Sun, Wed, Thurs

 

The Program
304-32 Vegreville Dakota House
This Disability Supports program assists 2 persons-served with Autism (ASD) to live supported in their community home, help them with daily activities, behavioural supports and and community inclusion.
Previous experience with complex, high behavior supports and/or American Sign Language (ASL) is an asset.

The Position
Supports persons-served, at home (mentoring/supervising daily activities, household chores) to encourage independence and in the community (attending appointments, be involved in recreational/social activities, volunteer, etc.) to encourage integration into the community.
NOTE* CUPE union membership required
* This is a Temporary position to cover an absence of unknown length; you are welcome to apply for permanent positions with WJS Canada while filling this role.

In Your Role You Will
• Support individuals to build life skills and social/occupational skills, independence and encourage participation and social interaction within the community.
• Teach/assist person-served with daily household tasks (food preparation, laundry, cleaning, etc) and personal care/hygiene (grooming, dental care, bathing)
• Drive individual in your own vehicle to appointments, day programs, community events, etc.
• Have a positive attitude and belief that persons with disabilities have the right to define/pursue their life choices, and participate in community events, employment and recreation.

*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• Previous experience with complex, high behavior supports and/or American Sign Language (ASL) is an asset.
• Other experience such as Nursing, Education Assistant or Health Care Aide may be considered.
• High School Diploma or GED
• MANDATORY - A valid Class 5 Driver License, clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle with suitable insurance.
• American Sign Language (ASL) skills a definite asset
• Skills in assisting individuals in anger management, daily living, self help, etc.
ALSO helpful, but will train if needed:
• First Aid/CPR Certification
• Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Foundations and Disabilities Training
• Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety, as appropriate.
