Applications are currently being accepted for a full-time (35-hours/week) Clinical Counsellor and Outreach in our Counselling Program.

 

Job Responsibilities    

  • Provide individual, couple, family and group counselling, with a focus on the 2SLGBTQ+ community
  • Build the profile of Family Services of Peel by liaising with existing agencies and developing community networks. This position may necessitate working at other locations within Peel.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input and ideas for improving services.
  • Contribute to team assignments and projects
  • Maintain confidentiality for all matters related to Agency work in accordance with relevant Agency policies and procedures
  • Participate in orientation and training of placement students
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned, for team or Agency

 

Key Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field, combined with minimum 3-years of paid work experience in providing counselling to and working with individuals, couple and families, including within the 2SLGBTQ+ community
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of lesbians and gay men, bisexual, transsexual, transgendered, two-spirited, intersex, queer and questioning individuals and the issues affecting them and their communities
  • Demonstrated competence and/or additional training/graduate work in 2SLGBTQ+ issues, cognitive/behavioural approaches, brief therapy, couple and family counselling, addictions counselling and group facilitation
  • Ability to work with diverse organizations and clients including cultural sensitivity
  • Experience in community outreach
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
  • Current and ongoing membership in good standing within a recognized accrediting body
  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence and regular access to a vehicle is required
  • Must provide criminal record check
  • As there may be a remote component to  this job, the ability to work from home, consisting of a safe and private home office setting and the necessary technical equipment and high-speed Internet access for remote work
  • Familiarity with virtual work platforms
  • Superior written and oral command of the English language
  • Strong communication skills, including presentations
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and data bases
  • Demonstrated efforts to continuously update skills
  • Ability to work day, evening and week-end hours
  • Flexibility to work at a variety of locations throughout Peel region
  • Additional language(s) an asset
