Here at Anika Youth Services, we support youth in the Surrey and Langley area who are in need of wrap around services, including long-term housing, outreach services, and life skills programming. At AYS, we create individualized plans that address the youth’s mental health, social, behavioural, and emotional needs.

The Awake Night Support Worker oversees the overall care of a designated person served. Participates as part of the team responsible for identifying specific services and treatment plans on an individual basis.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the primary 24 hour residential support staff
  • Nightly perimeter and bed checks every hour
  • Medication administration if youth return home past shutdown
  • Staff must communicate with 24 hour staff regarding medication at EVERY shift change
  • Check in with youth if youth return home past curfew
  • Crisis management
  • Complete night-time cleaning checklist and sign off daily
  • Complete all required documentation - ISP, ISP tracking, Incident Reports, Dailies
  • Assist youth with meeting ISP goals

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 year diploma in child and youth care or related social services field
  • Class 5 License and reliable vehicle
  • Standard First-Aid Level 1 with CPR
  • Clear criminal record
  • Understanding of mental health, substance misuse, attachment and trauma informed practice
  • Must be able to work awake overnight hour shifts of 10pm-6am or 11pm-7am in a rotation of 4 days on and 4 days off.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer skills including the ability to navigate basic online documentation programs
  • Conflict resolution and crisis management skills
  • Strong relatability and rapport building skills
  • Ability to perform basic household duties, such as maintaining a budget, grocery shops, meal preparation, cleaning and ability to teach basic life skills
  • Versatility to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Cultural competency
  • Non-judgmental, positive, and respectful approach to house residents, co-workers, and other professionals
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Creative in supporting clients in meeting their service plan goals
