Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for a General Support Services (GSS) Counsellor based in Waterloo. Reporting to the Program Manager, General Support Services, the GSS Counsellor will be responsible for providing individual support services to adults (age 16+) who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened, deafblind and hard of hearing or to their family to assist them to live independently within their community and access services and supports (home, work, school, family and social). The incumbent will also promote and advocate for accessibility and sensitivity community wide.

This is a permanent full-time position, working Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Social Work (or equivalent with experience) and be a member of a regulated college (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers). French would be an asset.

You have a minimum of 2-3 years’ counselling and case management within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, complemented by knowledge/experience with landlord-tenant concerns, income supports, AODA, and provincial and federal services. You also have proven experience developing and facilitating psychoeducational workshops. 

You are someone with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. You have a sense of urgency and can handle a pressurized environment with the ability to manage a varied workload with competing priorities and deadlines.
