Digital Systems Engineer (WordPress, Coda & General IT)

Organizational Context:
Voice of Purpose (VOP) is an organization that focuses on capacity building and systems change in the transformative arts sector. The primary purpose of our industry is to deliver empowering social impact through the arts and community engagement. VOP serves the sector through professional development, consulting, and sector-wide collaborations. We are an organization dedicated to being an industry catalyst by supporting arts organizations, leaders, and the sector as a whole to embody true purpose and deepen our collective impact in the world.  

VOP is in the process of developing and delivering new projects in 2024 across Canada and the US that will provide professional development training for community engaged artists, and strategic change management support for arts leaders of colour. We are an organization with a mission anchored in co-liberation and transformation.

VOP is a federally-incorporated Canadian nonprofit organization. 

 

Role Dimensions:

1) Website Development: VOP is seeking an expert Wordpress Developer experienced in TailWind and TailPress with the following skills:

  • Ability to support the fix of an existing build (i.e. help with tweaking custom content widgets and plugins on our site)
  • Comfortable with Java Script
  • Comfortable with CSS frameworks
  • Can follow style guide with TailWind, with TailPress integration
  • Other integrations: Active Campaign, embedded video via Vimeo
  • Initially, you will be picking up work from directives left behind by the original developer such as:
  • Updating home page, content, and layout - including re-working widgets and plugins 
  • Update to blog layout & back-end architecture
  • Support with uploading copy and media
  • Integrations with CRMs, lead generation inputs

2) Project System Components: The candidate will also lead the development and technical build and integrations related to VOP’s new projects in 2024 which will include:

  • Online learning platform - for a professional development course
  • Collaborative hub for co-creating and sharing knowledge-based assets among various thought leaders and participants
  • Online hub for sharing resources & tools with the public
  • Podcast
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Data and web hosting management

3) Coda Engineering: We are also seeking an engineer who can develop solutions within Coda. We use Coda as a team collaboration, project management, and knowledge hub to serve our operations. Your role will support:

  • Database management and configuration
  • Solution design & development
  • Solution Integrations
  • Technical support

4) General technical support: We need this individual to serve as an in-house tech support engineer for internal and external activities such as:

  • Tech assistant for participants to problem solve in real time, to help navigate and resolve any barriers to participation during group sessions 
  • Tech support for staff to navigate and problem solve to resolve technical issues with platforms we use internally

Other considerations & qualifications - The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Must be able to work on fast timelines for turn over of deliverables.
  • Able to integrate accessibility considerations and needs of staff and participants  
  • Commitment to Anti-Oppression, Social Justice, Co-Liberation, EDIA
  • Able to work in teams in a highly collaborative environment, as well as & independently
  • A Leader - Self-motivated / Self-driven
  • Effective and direct communicator, with mastery of written and spoken English
  • Pays attention to detail
  • Strategic thinker who can integrate strategic foresight and organizational strategy
  • Interested in innovation & strategy
  • Interested in change and transformation stewardship (industry change leadership)
  • Versed in non-profit organizations and community arts sector
  • Feels that personal purpose/passion is in alignment with this role
  • Has access to stable internet & computer - Able to work fully remote

Reporting & Team Structure:

The candidate will be taking directives from our Executive Director, and Director of Digital Strategy, as well as collaborating with our Marketing team. The majority of our team works within Eastern & Central Time Zones.

 

Timing and compensation:

$30/hr up to 10 hours a week, for a period of 12-18 months. Please note that this is an independent contractor position.

The ideal candidate would be available to start as soon as possible and must be able to begin work on the website immediately on time-sensitive items (i.e. Role Dimension #1). The position will be posted until it is filled.
