In Person & Virtual Peer Support Facilitator  I  

We are seeking a compassionate peer support facilitator with lived experience of bipolar affective disorder to co-lead weekly peer support groups. In this role, you will be required to conduct regular one hour support meetings and help develop strength based recovery strategies for peers with bipolar affective disorder

To ensure success as a peer support facilitator you should be empathetic and possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills. A competent peer support facilitator should be able to listen to a client’s recovery story, easily identify warning signs in clients and provide effective interventions and emotional support.

This is an in person and remote position.

 

Peer Support Facilitator Responsibilities:

    Co-facilitate peer support meeting with up to 15 clients per meeting.

    Be able to guide, moderate and facilitate dialogue with clients in various stages of their
    recovery journey with bipolar affective disorder

    Ability to offer strength based solutions to clients struggling with bipolar symptoms
    Suggest  recovery plans, introduce mental wellness tools, coping methods, and rehabilitation
    strategies in a peer support group setting

    Refer clients to other community resources to help in their bipolar recovery journey.

    Collect member statistics and attendance in compliance with Alberta FOIP and stakeholder
    interest

 

Peer Support Facilitator Requirements:

    College or University degree preferred

    Certified peer support training  or proven experience supporting peers in a group setting 

    Ability to self monitor and manage their own journey of bipolar affective disorder in recovery

    Clear understanding of bipolar affective disorder and how to mitigate symptoms and live in
    Recovery

    Lived experience of bipolar disorder in recovery.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Highly compassionate and attentive to detail.

    Familiarity with facilitating virtual and zoom groups is an asset


Preference will be given to those able to do in person meetings in Calgary as well as zoom.
