The Finance Assistant is responsible for a wide range of administrative support activities inside our Finance team, including monitoring and logging Accounts Payable activities, generating invoices for Accounts Receivable, communicating with vendors, maintaining/updating Finance-related files, and performing data entry as needed.

Serving as a representative of the Finance department and the organization as a whole, this position will provide professional and positive interactions with vendors and contacts at all times.

You Will

  • Maintain and update Finance-related files and documents in the office.
  • Complete bank reconciliation for various bank accounts.
  • Perform month-end journal entries for prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and amortization.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.
  • Execute other journal entries as needed.
  • Record expenses in Financial Edge.
  • Conduct reconciliation of Raiser’s Edge postings to guarantee alignment with entries made into the RE clearing account.
  • Perform reconciliations of various accounts as needed.
  • Perform bank reconciliations for USD transactions and raffle-related activities.
  • Create new projects according to the established checklist for grant management.
  • Review revenue records to ensure all projects are accurately captured.
  • Reconcile Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) records.
  • Manage reconciliation for Expense Clearing, EFT Clearing, and Finance Clearing accounts, including one-time projects.

You Are

  • Detail-Oriented: you are proud of your work and know that cutting corners isn’t an option; you are thorough and accurate with strong data entry and data processing abilities.
  • Organized: you have excellent project and time management skills; you have a very keen attention to detail, coupled with the ability to multitask.
  • Communicative: you have a knack for making complex ideas seem clear and simple; team members and peers always know what you’re up to.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (in particular, Excel); previous experience with Financial Edge or other accounting software programs would be considered an asset.
  • Pursuing or interest in pursuing a CPA designation an asset.
  • Previous education and/or experience in Accounting would be considered an asset.
  • Willing to hit the ground running, learn on the job, and resolve situations with a positive attitude.
  • Committed to a high standard of professional behaviour, and able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • To be eligible, youth must:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
    • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
    • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible participants. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
