DUTIES                                   

 

  • Cleans and maintains the Centre and grounds as per safety and health regulations
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces in common areas, hallways, stairways, basements, restrooms, showers, offices, conference rooms, kitchen, dining area and activity spaces.
  • Wash dishes and maintain cleanliness of kitchen ware and equipment with the assistant of the cooks.
  • Assist the cooks in the preparation of food, keep stock and inventory for the serving area up to date and refill sugar, rice, coffee, and utensil containers.
  • Support the cooks and kitchen staff on placing deliveries away.
  • Assists the kitchen staff with preparing beverages, serving meals and snacks, and clean after each meal the server, dining and kitchen area.
  • Empty trash bins, collect and dispose of waste properly, and ensure that waste receptacles are clean and well-maintained.
  • Maintains the facility at a prominent level of cleanliness and tidiness and ensures supplies are well organized and stocked.
  • Maintain front yard clean, maintain around the building clean and sweep stairs toward the basement from outside clean and wash front yard, organize, garbage bins, wash them and place them back inside on garbage day and keep waste area nice and tidy.
  • Teach residents how to use facility equipment; microwave, toaster, hot water tower, washer/dryer machine, how to use toilets, showers, cleaning products and how to dispose garbage properly.
  • Identify and report any maintenance issues or safety concerns to program manager promptly and assist in coordinating repairs or maintenance activities as needed.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and emergency exit, to ensure they are in proper working condition.
  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other consumables as needed to maintain inventory levels.
  • Assist on the preparation of rooms for new arrivals.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

     

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Minimum 2-year experience in building operation and facility maintenance especially janitorial or caretaking work in large residential institutions.
  • Must have a WHMIS certificate.
  • Must have a safe food handling certificate.
  • Sensitivity and awareness of working with refugee population.
  • Experience in operation of various equipment associated with facility/building.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Must have knowledge of infection control best practices that apply to this setting.
  • Must be able to perform all duties while wearing a, properly fitted, face mask as prescribed by the employer.
  • Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of maintenance materials and equipment.
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
  • Ability to communicate in English both orally and written and a second language will be an asset; Arabic, Amharic, Farsi, Spanish, and French.
  • Ability to follow directions, guidelines, and policies and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills an asset.
