The Memorial Society of BC is a not-for-profit, non-denominational, consumer advocacy organization formed in 1956. We are an objective source of education and information regarding the funeral sector. We provide our members with access to ethical and affordable funeral providers and support our members in end-of-life planning.

Position Summary

We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our Member Support team.   Member Support is committed to helping members with all kinds of inquiries and play an invaluable role in helping families with referrals and support upon the death of a member. Another part of this role is to help raise awareness and promote the Memorial Society of BC to diverse constituencies. Member Support is often the first point of contact for the organization and requires a professional, enthusiastic and positive approach.  

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, this is a part-time position that offers an exciting opportunity for an individual wishing to make a difference in end-of-life planning.  

 

Member Support – 14 hours

·         Support new and existing members with diverse inquiries and requests for assistance.

·         Reply in timely manner to incoming phone calls and emails; manage incoming and outgoing office mail.

·         Provide knowledgeable and compassionate support and referrals to families when a death occurs.

·         Adhere to internal protocols to ensure database is consistently and accurately updated. 

·         Process membership applications and payments.             

·         Support regular office administration as required.

·         Other duties as required.

 

Member Outreach – 7 hours

·         Research and identity opportunities to successfully promote the organization to increase membership.

·         Develop and nurture relationships with diverse organizations and groups.

·         Organize and deliver presentations in the community.

·         Attend community events as required.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in social work, community development, hospitality, or equivalent in training and experience

·         Exceptional interpersonal skills with positive and outgoing approach and ability to work with diverse clientele.

·         Experience working with databases and other computer programs.

·         Solid time management skills and strong ability to problem solve.

·         Exceptional oral skills, including public presentations.

·         Knowledge of not-for-profit operations preferable

·         Preferred experience in working with older adults and seniors.

·         Knowledge or interest in end-of-life issues is a strong asset.

 

Position type: 12-month contract with possibility for renewal, beginning as soon as possible

Hours: 21 hours per week (with 2 days/week in office)

Rate of pay: $25.00 per hour
