Job Summary

The University of Alberta Students’ Union is seeking a Manager of Reconciliation, Inclusion, and Sustainability to lead our organization's efforts in creating a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable organization. This role is integral to driving our commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and reconciliation through developing, implementing, and monitoring programs that align with our sustainability and social responsibility goals.  This position works to improve the social responsibility and sustainability of UASU operating practices. The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainability and has a deep understanding of equity, inclusion, and reconciliation frameworks.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Develop, implement, and monitor strategies that foster an inclusive workplace, promote sustainability, and support reconciliation efforts of the Students' Union 
  • Program Management: Oversee the creation and execution of programs and initiatives that address equity, diversity, and inclusion challenges, promote sustainable practices, and encourage engagement with Indigenous communities.
  • Partner Engagement: Work closely with internal and external partners, including employees at all levels, community leaders, and industry partners, to advance reconciliation, inclusion, and sustainability goals.
  • Training and Education: Design and deliver training sessions to educate employees on diversity, inclusion, cultural competency, sustainability, and related topics.
  • Policy Development: Draft and update policies to reflect the organization's commitment to reconciliation, inclusion, and sustainability.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Monitor, analyze, and report on the progress of initiatives, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to EDI and sustainability.
  • Advisory Role: Serve as an expert advisor to the UASU Executive and senior management on issues related to reconciliation, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Human Resources, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related role, with a strong focus on EDI and sustainability initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies that address complex social and environmental issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices, EDI principles, and reconciliation efforts.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience managing staff is preferred.

Location: This work is primarily in person on the University of Alberta campus. Hybrid work may be accommodated; however, not during the first few weeks of each semester.
