Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth facing complex barriers? Do you have a background in psychology, social work, or occupational therapy? If so, Youth Housing Programs (YHP) invites you to join our dedicated team as a Clinical Oversight Lead (COL).

About Us:

YHP offers safe, supportive housing for youth aged 14-17 encountering a myriad of challenges, including substance use, addictions, traumatic histories, mental health concerns, criminal justice involvement, and more. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment for youth from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQ2S+ individuals, newcomers to Canada, and refugees. With three homes accommodating up to 5 youth each, we strive to promote recovery, healing, and positive development.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Consultation

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary care team to support youth on their recovery journey through a Recovery-Oriented System of Care approach.
  • Develop tailored care plans addressing individual needs while minimizing risks, emphasizing hope, self-determination, and empowerment.
  • Identify trauma triggers, distress sources, and provide coping strategies for emotional regulation.
  • Offer strategies to improve mental and physical health, relationships, social inclusion, and overall quality of life for youth and their families.

Therapeutic Support

  • Facilitate pathways for psychological or psychiatric assessments for youth.
  • Make referrals to resources aligned with individualized care plans.
  • Advocate for building a recovery community around youth, involving family and care teams.
  • Coordinate formal support for youth transitioning into young adulthood.

Support and Development

  • Provide mentorship, education, and support to program teams on emotional regulation, crisis intervention, and cultural competence.
  • Conduct monthly training sessions for program teams.
  • Engage in continuous improvement of staff practices based on current literature and national trends.

Administration

  • Maintain timely records of ongoing work following internal and professional guidelines.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of acquired information.
  • Provide written resources to youth and families as needed.
Qualifications

Education and Certifications

  • Graduate degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation) or occupational therapy.
  • Licensed in accordance with the Health Professions Act and provides services in accordance with professional standards, guidelines, and ethics.

Experience

  • 3+ years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Must be a member in good standing with their respective professional association/college.
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting the healing of youth who have experience trauma.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following therapeutic modalities: cognitive, behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, crisis intervention, narrative therapy and emotionally focused therapy.
  • Strong crisis intervention/de-escalation training/skills.
  • Demonstrated experience de-escalating crisis and potentially violent situations with individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol, under extreme stress &/or struggling with acute/chronic mental health crises.
  • Extensive background and experience working with youth struggling with substance use/addictions, poverty, mental health, traumatic histories, LGBTQ2S+, and Newcomers to Canada and/or refugees. Understanding and ability to respond to multiple, complex barriers faced by youth.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, database applications and computer operation.
