Position Overview:  The Foodbank Associate Driver is ideal for those who love to work independently and stay active, while being supported by a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. The Foodbank Associate Driver, under the direction of the Manager, Exchange Community Animation, will be responsible for client food hamper deliveries, food purchasing, and donation pick up and general foodbank warehouse duties including donation receiving and storage, preparing and distributing client food orders, tracking inventory and cleanliness and organization of the warehouse and equipment and supplies.

Position Deliverables/Accountabilities: Under the general direction of the Manager, Exchange Community Animation, the incumbent will:

  • Delivery of client food hampers to various Caledon locations;
  • Food purchasing and donation pick up in Peel and surrounding areas;
  • Ensure food delivery and pick up is done accurately and efficiently;
  • Interact with clients, which may include entering homes, receiving compliments/complaints, friendly conversations with those who are isolated;
  • Adheres to the driving schedule assigned by the scheduler;
  • Performs thorough vehicle safety inspection prior to departure, noting and immediately reporting any concerns or deficiencies to the Manager or designate;
  • Maintains regular communication with scheduling staff throughout each shift, reporting problems, concerns, or updates;
  • Work safely and efficiently while adhering to all company and health and safety policies and procedures; Completes all required documentation accurately and promptly;
  • Complies with all Health and Safety Regulations, Ontario Traffic Safety Act, MTO Regulations and Agency policies and procedures;
  • Drives in all weather conditions;
  • When not driving, proactively maintain the organization and cleanliness of the warehouse;
  • Ensure accurate recording of all food acquisition and distribution data in the warehouse database;
  • Ensure adherence to proper practices for perishable food products (FIFO-First in First Out);
  • Provide guidance to warehouse volunteers when required;
  • Performs general warehouse duties and assists other departments, as required;
  • Assists with opening and / or closing procedures including being a Key Holder for the facility;
  • Participates in regular mandatory staff meetings and training as required.

Qualification Criteria:

  • Minimum High School or equivalent;
  • 2 years driving experience; Valid Ontario “G” Class driver’s license with clear driving record;
  • Ability to drive in all seasons; Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures;
  • Must be available to work Saturdays;
  • Previous experience working in delivery and distribution an asset;
  • Experience driving commercial vehicles an asset;
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance requirements an asset;
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to safe work practices (i.e. health and safety, safe food storage); Ability to maintain a clean and orderly workspace;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; Ability to bend/crouch, in order to retrieve materials and products;
  • Effective Communicator; Excellent verbal communication skills and comfortable interacting with the public;
  • Committed to working with a team to build a great customer experience;
  • Passionate about helping others;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
