Job Summary:

The Program Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of Food Bank programs including Starfish Pack, Dental Clinic, Intake Services, Seva Food Program, Christmas Bureau, and Administration.  The Program Supervisor is responsible for the effective administration, leadership, and advancement of food service programs and the delivery of client-centered services.  Responsibilities include program assessment, review, strategy, and implementation.  In addition, this position will be responsible for effective resource allocation and budget management as well as providing leadership and supervision to the team.  The Program Supervisor supports the Manager, Food Security, in adopting and implementing a human rights/equity based social justice lens to food related programming at the Food Bank.

Your Role:

Archway’s Program Supervisor with the Food Bank contributes by:

  • Providing support, leadership, direction, and supervision to staff along with evaluating staff performance and identifying training needs.
  • Managing the hiring and onboarding process for all new hires.   
  • Providing oversight responsibility and support for the daily operations of the Starfish Pack, Dental Clinic Intake Services, Seva Food Program, Christmas Bureau, and Front Desk Administration.
  • Supporting staff in overseeing a large base of volunteers.
  • Overseeing a client centred approach in accessing programs to ensure they meet emerging client needs and contractual obligations.
  • Participating in Food Bank activities, including media interviews, lead tours, and new volunteer orientations (as needed) to enhance public awareness of the Food Bank.
  • In collaboration with Marketing and Communications, assisting in creating/updating food security media updates, content-sharing, and providing visibility in social media and public relations.
  • Managing and overseeing expenditures within existing budget allowances; making budget recommendations, and monitoring program income statements and general ledgers on an ongoing basis ensuring program performance is consistent with budgeted expectations.
  • Ensuring the timely submission of program reports including the ED Report, Quarterly Reports, Annual Reports, Funding Reports, etc.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting of statistical information as required by appropriate funders (e.g., Fraser Health, the City of Abbotsford, United Way of the Lower Mainland, etc.).

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or Business Administration or other relevant discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Progressive supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a position that addresses food security issues.
  • Experience working in either program management, program delivery, or program coordination.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Strong verbal, written, and active listening communication skills; able to communicate clearly and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and varying levels of English.
  • Budgeting skills; able to manage a program budget(s) efficiently.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills; able to balance and manage competing projects and priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong competency with computers; able to use Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to use virtual meeting platforms including Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Skilled at communicating and presenting information with ease to a variety of diverse audiences and large groups in a clear, concise, and effective way for the purposes of report writing, facilitating meetings and networking.
  • Ability to interact with clients, volunteers and co-workers with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and treat everyone with respect, dignity, and compassion.
  • Skilled at managing performance, setting goals, and creating autonomy and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively solve problems independently and work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and positive results.
  • Excellent inter-cultural communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for change management—able to connect “small” actions to a “big picture.”
  • Ability to have face-to-face meetings with clients, staff, and the public, requiring adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to switch tasks to respond to frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, which may be required on occasion.
  • Ability to interact with people in challenging situations.
  • A valid BC driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s record.
  • The use of a personal vehicle may be required for program-related driving; must be able to be insured according to Archway policy 3.36.
  • Must be willing and flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
