Job Summary

Highway 3 Twinning Development Association (H3TDA) is a non-profit association that exists to pursue the development of the Highway 3 corridor in Southern Alberta from Crowsnest Pass to Medicine Hat, with the ultimate goal of the entire route "twinned" (2 lanes constructed in each direction). 

 

Reporting to the Executive Officers of the Association, the Director of Advancement is a highly visible, accomplished professional who works closely with the Associations Board, members, regional elected officials, provincial and federal departments, citizens and private stakeholders to deliver projects that support the strategic goals and work plan of the Association. Similar to an Executive Director role, the Director of Advancement also provides direct operations support to the Association and administrative support to the efforts of its Board and Executive. 

 

Location:  Virtual Office.  Reimbursed travel will be occasionally required.

**Candidates physically located along the Highway 3 corridor will be an asset.

Position Skills & Competencies 

The Director of Advancement must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively towards the mission of the Association, be flexible and innovative in leveraging resources and people to accomplish goals, be a natural ‘people person’ able to inspire cooperation and enthusiasm for twinning projects, and have an action-oriented attitude that lends itself to complex problem solving. It is very important that the Director of Advancement have excellent strategic communication skills, be able to deliver non-partisan messaging in a complex political environment and fill the role as the Association’s Registered Lobbyist. The range and type of projects that will present themselves is very broad, and versatility is an asset. A good understanding of Board Governance and social media will be required, with lobbyist, economic development and/or construction background helpful.

 

Responsibilities

Manage the Operations of the Association via our Cloud server, laptop & cell phone (provided)

o   Schedule and facilitate both Board and Executive Meetings, including Agendas & Minutes,

o   Files, membership, and contact list maintenance & organization,

o   Preparation & submission of requested and required regulatory documents or grants,

o   Monitor emails and phone calls, maintain website and arrange media interviews,

o   Track and report progress towards strategic goals and work plan completion,

o   Bookkeeping; A/P, A/R, invoicing, annual budget, and financial reporting.

Advocacy and Lobbying

o   Regular Networking with Ministry staff, MLAs, 

o   Attend relevant stakeholder conferences, meetings and tradeshows,

o   Recruit business members, maintain stakeholder relationships and citizen information flow,

o   Create media releases, social media posts, and marketing materials for tradeshows.

 

Preferred Experience & Qualification Strengths:

·       Federal, Provincial, Municipal Government and/or Economic Development training or position,

·       Post-secondary degree, or equivalent combination of work experience in related roles,

·       Past Not-for-Profit or Governance Board position (volunteer or paid),

·       Administrative role/s which include Financial responsibility, proficiency with Microsoft Office software, understanding of Cloud-based Virtual Office (Google Drive) and Social Media acumen,

·       An expansive personal and/or professional network is an asset.

 

While experience is important, a demonstrated ability to problem solve and learn fast will be considered.

 

Contract compensation to be determined. Please provide a preferred monthly or annual contract range.

This is an independent contractor position, payment will be made upon receipt of an invoice. Contractor is required to carry standard business insurance and be responsible for related tax submittals such as; GST, WCB, CPP and other income taxes.
