FTE  contract position, 0.1 to 0.8 FTE with flexible schedule 

LOCATION Therapists are not required to live in east central Alberta but must be willing to see clients within the region. Preference will be given to those who are able to provide in person services within the region. 

 

THE ROLE

Child and Youth Therapists provide direct client therapeutic intervention, including play therapy, to address experiences of sexualized violence and other forms of trauma for children aged 5-17. Specialized training in play therapy may be provided.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct trauma therapy with children and youth who have experienced recent and/or historical sexual abuse, assault, or other forms of complex trauma
  • Include guardians, caregivers and family members in treatment, as appropriate
  • Undertake indirect services in support of the client’s therapy such as case conferencing, recording, staff meetings, liaise with and coordinate meetings with relevant agencies and services
  • Adhere to the values and philosophy of treatment set forth in the ACAA Training Manual and Clinical Policy
  • Assess client needs, strengths and progress, using tools determined by ACAA (in partnership with ACAA’s Evaluation Consultant, Clinical Director, Executive Director and AASAS, the provincial Sexual Violence Association)
  • Maintains accurate documentation in OWL Practice and confidentiality of records and information
  • Adhere to the vision, mission, and mandate of ACAA
  • Participate in monthly supervision support with Clinical Director, group supervision and Team Meetings
  • Refer clients to internal ACAA programs as relevant
  • Serve clients in one or more communities: Camrose, Stettler, Drumheller, Hanna, Castor, Coronation, and surrounding areas. Location and number of files is dependent upon therapist availability
  • Develop and maintain respectful, cooperative working relationships

 

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Masters degree in Clinical Social Work, Counselling Psychology or equivalent
  • Certified in Play Therapy, or motivated to become Certified with the support of ACAA
  • Active Registration in good standing with a legislated professional regulatory body in Alberta, eligible for independent practice and to provide services in the province of Alberta
  • A minimum of 5 years experience providing clinical services required, work in trauma field essential
  • Active certification in EMDR, Somatic Experience or other evidence supported trauma treatment
  • Satisfactory professional, Child Intervention Checks (Vulnerable Sector) and Police Information Checks provided to ACAA prior to start date

  • Comfortable working independently, and consulting with supervisor and team as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal, inter-professional team skills and excellent oral and written communication
  • Must have a passion for providing accessible, quality, trauma-informed counselling in an environment of diversity and inclusion. 
  • Serve clients in one or more communities: Camrose, Stettler, Drumheller, Hanna, Castor, Coronation, and surrounding areas. Location and number of files is dependent upon therapist availability
