Role: Family Support Worker (Childcare)

The Opportunity:

Kids Kottage Foundation is recruiting a part-time Family Support Worker.  Reporting to the Team Lead, a Family Support Worker is responsible for exemplary, trauma informed child care

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interacts and engages with infants and children
  • Provides a high quality of childcare for infants and children supporting their emotional, physical and social development milestones
  • Maintains a safe environment
  • Assists infants and children in their daily routines, keeping in mind the developmental stages
  • Completes developmental screening of infants and children as required
  • Assists infants and children to cope with feelings of separation from parents
  • Ensures that files are completed and data is entered correctly
  • Completes daily logs of the assigned infants and children
  • Oversees and assists childcare volunteers as they provide care for infants and children
  • Keeps abreast of all current resources for family systems and children and applies all current applicable legislation
  • Shares information with the Kids Kottage team
  • Takes crisis nursery calls offering non-judgmental assistance to all families pursuing help from Kids Kottage
  • Completes admissions and discharges with the parents as needed
  • Performs light housekeeping duties

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of diploma in the human services field, and/or early child care education
  • 2 years’ experience in care of infants and children
  • Program development and implementation experience
  • Will be a self-starter who applies energy, vision and flexibility to his/her work
  • Must provide and maintain clear Child Intervention Record Check and Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector search
  • Standard First Aid with Level C

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Child Development, Trauma Informed Care, Brain Story
  • Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences theories is an asset
  • Ability to think critically and excellent problem solver
  • Knowledge of strength-based strategies and able to use them effectively

Work Environment:

  • Crisis Nursery, children ages 0-10
  • We are looking to hire 1 permanent part-time staff to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday Evening shifts from 3:45pm-12:00am and 1 casual staff that has weekday daytime availability. 
  • We have 3 shift times that casuals can pick up, Day shifts are 7:45am-4:00pm, Evening shifts are 3:45pm-12:00am and Night shifts are 11:45pm-8:00am.
