The Career Advisor/Facilitator, is responsible for assisting unemployed individuals with their career, employment and training goals under the Job Search Assisted Services component of the Employment Services (ES) model and for contributing to quality service delivery through case management. The Career Advisor/Facilitator is required to maintain an effective working relationship with the team and the extended community in accordance with the Mission and Policies of YWCA Toronto.

 

ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – YWCA EMPLOYMENT CENTRE (2425 Eglinton Avenue East)

YWCA Toronto Employment Centre 2425 Eglinton Avenue East is a customer-focused program model for job seekers and employers, with focus on women, young women and gender-diverse people. The YWCA Toronto Employment Centre is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development through their Employment Ontario Division (EO). We act as a one-stop service for all jobseekers and employers. We use our resources to support all job seekers, especially those more distantly removed from the workforce, to reach their goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works collaboratively with the other members of the team to provide structured and individualized

support to clients for successful job search in a group setting or through one and one contact;

  • Conducts needs assessment to identify client's employment history, motivation levels, needs and goals,

and determines candidates' suitability for access to services under the Assisted Services component of the program, using the prescribed tools and guides them in the development of their service plans;

  • Case manages at least 300 files annually to ensure a monthly client outcome of at least 6 employed (self

placed), 3 in training and 1 Better Jobs Ontario (BJO);

  • Monitors clients from intake to achievement of service plan objectives;
  • Facilitates group work on topics including, but not limited to: career exploration and clarification, goal setting, motivation, skills and interest evaluation and intensive job search strategies;
  • Prepares and monitors financial supports on a weekly basis;
  • Works closely with Employment & Placement Specialists to ensure work outcomes based on program needs identified monthly;
  • Ensures sensitive responses to vulnerable clients and diffuses contentious situations;
  • Conducts follow ups for up to one year with clients who exited the program to capture information on job status and to offer further support.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through courses leading to the completion of an undergraduate degree (examples : Adult Education, Career Counselling, Social Science or equivalent). (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • Work involves application of theoretical knowledge to job-related problems;
  • 3-5 years of experience in related field;
  • Group Facilitation and Life Skills Training is required;
  • Strong knowledge of Employment Ontario ES model and other employment sector programs;
  • Specialized training and experience in vocational testing and interpretation;
  • Ability to operate in an environment that has minimal supervision and where considerable judgment and critical analyses are required;
  • Experience in dealing with conflicts and diffusing contentious situations;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to program changes when required;
  • Commitment and ability to work with diverse groups;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong working knowledge of computers.
