The Employment & Placement Specialist, as part of the YWCA Employment Centres team will contribute to quality service delivery and achievement of program goals, by preparing and helping clients find employment. This position is required to maintain an effective working relationship with employers and the general community, in accordance with the Mission and Policies of YWCA Toronto.

 

ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – YWCA EMPLOYMENT CENTRE (2425 Eglinton Avenue East)

YWCA Toronto Employment Centre 2425 Eglinton Avenue East is a customer-focused program model for job seekers and employers, with focus on women, young women and gender-diverse people. The YWCA Toronto Employment Centre is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development through their Employment Ontario Division (EO). We act as a one-stop service for all jobseekers and employers. We use our resources to support all job seekers, especially those more distantly removed from the workforce, to reach their goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with the Career Advisor/Facilitator to identify clients who are placement ready or who require job development, job retention and mentoring supports;
  • Conducts outreach and marketing to employers to identify opportunities in the “hidden” job market i.e. those not yet available in the competitive job market and where the employer has not commenced the recruiting process;
  • Develops a minimum of 3 new employer contacts monthly;
  • Places a minimum of 9 clients per month into ‘on the job training’ through job placement opportunities;
  • Facilitates job opportunities, including volunteering, job trials and direct hires into full time or part time work experiences;
  • Negotiates work placement agreements and contracts of varying durations with clients and employers, identifying workplace training objectives, commitments and applicable financial incentives;
  • Responsible for linking a minimum of 210 clients to employment annually;
  • Ensures a monthly client outcome of at least 17employed through job leads and placements; 13 through job leads and 4 through placements:
  • Works with other Employment & Placement Specialist to develop and expand employer networks;
  • Provides job coaching and job retention supports:
  • Overall responsibility for employer and client relations including orienting employers to clients’ needs, mediating contentious issues and negotiating clients’ work placement;
  • Any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through courses leading to the completion of an undergraduate degree in Human or Social Services, Marketing or Communications, (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • 3-5 years of job development and placement or labour market and/or human resources recruiting experience required;
  • Group Facilitation and Life Skills Training is required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Toronto area labour market trends and general knowledge of the labour market and social services;
  • Ability to administer, score and interpret work readiness assessment tools;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure; ability to adapt to program changes when required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media;
  • Experience in dealing with conflicts and diffusing contentious situations;
  • Commitment and ability to work with diverse groups;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • Advance knowledge of computers and training programs.
